The African dream of a better life

painted by Congolese artists

The history of the Congo is full of violence and cruelty. Nevertheless people dream of a better life. Can the change take place?

Alfi Alfa: "The Change", oil on canvas, 93 x 128 cm, 2007.

Maybe free elections could be the beginning of this new age:

Sam Ilus: "A good choice for a good arrival (Vol.1)". Acrylic colors on canvas, 100 x 136 cm, 2006.

Everything could be better: the educational system, health care, even justice.

Tresor Cherin: "I dream a future Congo". Acrylic colors on canvas, 90 x 114 cm, 2006.

Daily life should be as normal as in the European or American world.

Maitre SYMS: "The Congo of Tomorrow". Acrylic colors on canvas, 85 x 96 cm, 2006 (left).

Maory Prince: "Le Congo d'aujourd'hui", Acrylic colors on canvas, 104 x 110 cm, 2008 (right).

The aim is a modern country, where everybody could be happy:

SAPINart: "The Congo of the Future". Acrylic colors on canvas, 120 x 200 cm, 2006.

But it will need a good driver to make these dreams come true.

Sam Ilus: "Where to does this world go?". Acrylic colors on canvas, 110 x 150 cm, 2007.

(The paintings above where part of the exhibition "The Congo of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow", held at Hotel Memling, Kinshasa in 2007.)
